Grace Hammond

Funeral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 15, 1986 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Grace Hammond

Grace Hammond was born April 15, 1889, at Aurora, the daughter of George P. and Mary Pike Craft. She was a graduate of Aurora High School and attended Kearney and Peru Normal Schools.

She taught school in Hamilton County for 10 years.

On August 18, 1913, she married Howard Hammond of Aurora, Nebraska – they moved to ScottsBluff County and lived there for 44 years – she served on the school board and the Farm Bureau Board. She worked for the Great Western Sugar Co. for 23 campaigns.

Mr. Hammond died December 12, 1962. She moved to Washington D.C. to be near her son and family. Later returning to Grand Island, Nebraska to stay until moving into the long term wing at Memorial Hospital about 10 years ago.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a granddaughter Rebecca Ann Hammond, a daughter-in-law Dorothy Hammond, a sister-in-law Hannah Craft Noble, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and good friends from long term.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, sons, Kent and Major Dean Hammond; five sisters Violet Wright, Maybelle Entrekin, Effie Byers, Lillian Robb and Ruth Otto, and three brothers Charles, Warren and Maynard.
