Esther Hansen
Esther Hansen, age 93, formerly of Aurora, died Thursday, April 12, 2001 in Naperville, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday at Higby Mortuary Chapel in Aurora. Dr. Joe Scahill will officiate. Burial will be at the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M., Sunday at Higby Mortuary. Hansen, the daughter of William and Florence (Hillis) Sautter, was born on a farm southwest of Aurora, Nebraska on November 1, 1907 and died in Naperville, Illinois on April 12, 2001, at the age of 93 years. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1923. She worked as a school teacher in the Sand Hills after graduation. Esther returned to Aurora to work at Memorial Hospital. She graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1942 in Denver, Colorado as a R.N. Esther was united in marriage to Verner R. Hansen on December 16, 1943 in Denver, Colorado. They resided on a farm northeast of Aurora till 1973, when they moved to Aurora. She was employed as a Registered Nurse in Litzenberg Memorial Hospital in Central City. Esther retired in 1973 as Director of Nurses. Verner passed away in November 1974. In 1990, Esther moved to Illinois. In 1994, she moved in with her son and his family. In July 1998 she moved to Tabor Hills Nursing Home in Naperville, Illinois. Esther enjoyed reading to and being with her grandchildren. She was described as a "super lady" and "whale of a nurse". Esther always wanted to take care of everybody. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Helen Sautter and Mildred Duncan, and a brother, Ralph Sautter. Esther is survived by her son Wiliam R. Hansen and his wife Joann of Naperville, Illinois ; two grandchildren, Catherine M. Hansen and Lewis W. Hansen both of Naperville; great-grandson, Logan Brook Adair; Nephews, Richard Hansen of Aurora, Robert Hansen of Marquette, Robert Duncan of Grand Junction, Colorado and Richard Duncan of Montreal, Canada; Nieces, Arlene Bayne of Aurora, Norma Johnsen of Grand Island, Shirley Majors of Ericson, Lillian Barnard of Carmichael, California and Elaine Carroll of Sheridan Wyoming. |
