Frederick HansenFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 13, 1986 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: Frederick Edwin Hansen Frederick Edwin Hansen of Aurora died Wednesday, December 10, 1986 at the age of 90. Mr. Hansen was born September 4, 1896 in Clay County, the youngest son of Christian and Cathryn Madsen Hansen. He received his education at a country school and completed a University extension accounting course. He worked on his parents farm until their retirement after which he worked for his brother, James, on the same farm. He accepted a position at the Verona Co-op Elevator which led to his lifetime work. After working at various jobs including railroading, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Service on December 17, 1917 and was subsequently discharged on February 19, 1919. He then worked on year in a Minneapolis flour mill, after which time the returned to Sutton. On December 11, 1920 he married Verdie Israelson of Saronville who predeceased him in 1971. He was assistant manager of the Sutton Co-op elevator becoming manager in 1922. He served in that capacity for four years. He was later employed as manager of the Aurora Co-op Elevator Company in March, 1926 and held that position until his retirement in March, 1965 – a total of 39 years. He was a 67 year member of the American Legion and was a Past Commander of American Legion Post #42. He was a member of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Rotary International, the United Methodist Church of Aurora and Masonic Lodge AF & AM. He served on the Aurora City Council, the Board of Directors of the Farmers Union Elevator of Omaha and the Cooperative Marketing Association of Kansas City, MO. Survivors include a daughter, Mr. Merle (Barbara) Petersen of Grand Island, NE; two sons, Gerald of Dallas, TX and Doyle of Scottsdale, AZ, three sisters, Mrs. Clara Nelson of Edgar, Mrs. Edna Yost and Mrs. Anna Teter of Hastings, eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. |
