Dorothy Harp
Dorothy Harp, age 95, of Aurora, died Monday, December 10, 2007, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 14th at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Rev. Jim Corson will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: DOROTHY HARP Dorothy A. Harp, the daughter of John M. and Addie M. (Brown) Cox, was born at Murphy, Nebraska on October 30, 1912 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on December 10, 2007, at the age of 95. She grew up on a farm south of Murphy. Dorothy attended District 64 and District 4 Country Schools. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1930. Her first job was at Dobbs Variety Store, then Hamilton Telephone office for six years. On July 28, 1935, she was united in marriage to C. Glendon Harp at Grand Island. In 1943, they moved to Hampton where they operated a café, service station and auto repair shop. In 1960, they returned to Aurora, and Dorothy went to work at NPPD for 18 years. After that she worked part-time for Kissel Plumbing and Eckerson Equipment Company and from 1981 to 1992 for Stuchlik Realty. Glen passed away on November 1, 1991. Dorothy was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church and Ladies Circle. She was a member of Naphis Temple No. 66, Daughter of the Nile of Lincoln and Aurora Chapter #93 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a 73-year member, joining in 1934 active every year since 1946, holding various offices and worthy Matron for 10 different years and active in the Grand Chapter for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Marilyn Fenster. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Shirley Colson of Omaha; stepson, Buddy (Loretta) Harp of The Villages, Florida; son-in-law, Lowell (Willa) Fenster of North Platte; 6 grandchildren, Linda (Will) Wood of Fort Collins, Colorado, David (Meeko) Colson, Jeffrey Colson and Laurie Colson all of Omaha, Bob (Stephanie) Fenster of Omaha and Steve (Nyla) Fenster of Lincoln; 2 step-granddaughters, Karen Harp and Robin Harp of Washington, D.C.; 8 great-grandchildren, Kim (Matt) Ramsey, Melissa (Clay) Choate, Alan, Brooke, Kelsie and Kayleen Colson and their mother Colleen Colson and Hayden and Marshall Fenster; 3 great-great grandsons, Cody and Brody Choate and Leo Ramsey and sister, Evelyn Zehr of Aurora and niece, Karen Wilshusen. |
