Grace Heerten

Grace Heerten, age 80 of Burwell, died Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the Hearthstone, in York, Nebraska.

Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church, Hampton, Nebraska. Rev. Loren Cooper will officiate. Interment will be at 3:00 P.M. at the Ainsworth Cemetery in Ainsworth, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, January 6th from 4 – 8 P.M. at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora, Nebraska. OBITUARY: GRACE HEERTEN

Grace Henrietta Heerten, the daughter of Gustav and Lena (Jochem) Jochem, was born in rural Blaine County, Nebraska, on October 8, 1928, and passed away at York, Nebraska, Sunday evening, January 4, 2009.

She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Brewster, Nebraska, on December 16, 1928. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran, Ainsworth. Grace graduated with a teaching degree from Wayne State College and taught several years in rural Nebraska. On November 12, 1956, she was united in marriage to Wesley Heerten of Springview. Grace and Wesley farmed and ranched in Keya Paha, Blaine, and later Garfield Counties. Wesley passed away on January 13, 2004.

Grace loved music and writing. She served as church organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Brewster, for many years. She sang as she worked. Her faith was strong, and she served as a shining example to those around her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley, twin daughters, Linda and Louise, and three sisters, Marie, Ruth, and Esther.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her three children Laura Lee (Mike) Ramey, Timothy John (Patricia) Heerten, Jean Christine (Ed) Carnoali; seven grandchildren, Beth, Ana (Medders), Sarah and Josiah Ramey, Tyler Heerten, Johnathon and Mary Carnoali; and many other family and friends.
