Clarence Heiden

Clarence Heiden, age 93, of Hampton died Monday morning, August 27, 2001, at Memorial Long Term in Aurora.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. Loren Cooper will officiate. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M., Wednesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: CLARENCE HEIDEN

Clarence Edwin Heiden, the son of Gustav and Minnie (Rau) Heiden, was born at home in rural Hampton, Nebraska on August 3, 1908 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on August 27, 2001, at the age of 93 years.

Clarence was born at his family's home 6½ miles north and 2 miles east of Hampton. He was baptized on August 30, 1908 at Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. Malloring and was confirmed on April 9, 1922 by Rev. Brommer. He attended Zion Lutheran School through the 8th grade, before farming with his father. When Clarence was 13 years old he won second place in the State Spelling Contest in Lincoln.

Clarence was united in marriage to Alma M. Dose on April 28,1935, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton by Rev. Hugo Degner. They farmed one mile north of Zion for nine years and ¾ mile east of Zion for 32 years. They retired from farming in 1976, when they moved to Hampton, where he continued working as a carpenter for his son, Fred, for several more years. Clarence and Alma were married for 66 years.

Clarence was a life-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton, where he served in several offices and sang in the church choir for 52 years. He also sang in the Lutheran Choral Union in York for many years. Clarence served on the Hampton Public School Board

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Norma Heiden Budnick and Gertrude Heiden Rohde.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Alma of Hampton; three children, Fred Heiden and his wife Ann of Hampton, Mary Swanson and her husband Daryl of Lincoln and Ed Heiden and his wife Laura of Sterling; 9 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Heiden Klute Rehrs of York and Irene Heiden Mundt of Polk.
