Leland HemmingsenFuneral Services were held 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 4, 1983 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: Leland W. Hemmingsen Leland “Bud” Hemmingsen, the son of Hans Christian and Laura (Fogt) Hemmingsen, was born at Aurora, Nebraska, on March 18, 1924, and passed away at Rochester, Minnesota, on June 30, 1983, at the age of 59 years, 3 months and 12 days. He attended Aurora Public Schools and graduated from Aurora High School in 1942. On August 3, 1947, he was united in marriage to Shirley Cochran at Aurora. After graduation he was employed at the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant in the payroll department at Grand Island. In 1952 he moved to Aurora, while still employed at the ordinance plant. In 1955 he moved to Mazon, Illinois, where he worked at the Joliet arsenal in data processing. In 1973 he moved to Moline, Illinois and worked for the Rock Island Arsenal in the same capacity. In 1979 he retired and continued to reside in Moline, Illinois. His greatest interest was in sports and he was a member of the Lutheran Church. His father preceded him in death. Those who survive to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley; one son Dan of Morris, Illinois; one brother Chris of Wellington, Kansas; two sisters, Thelma Thompson of Sterling, Colorado and Vera Thurman of Mascoutah, Illinois; his mother and step-father Laura and Jack Stratton of Fairfield, Nebraska and other relatives and close friends. |
