Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 10, 1996, at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Richland Cemetery at Marquette, Nebraska.

OBITUARY: Donald Herbig

Donald C. Herbig, the son of Walter and Effie (Pillard) Herbig, was born at Marquette, Nebraska, on May 14, 1927, and died at his home in Aurora, Nebraska, on May 6, 1996, at the age of 68 years, 11 months, and 22 days.

He grew up in the Marquette area where he attended Pine Knot country school, and later moved to Archer, where he attended school until he enlisted in the United States Army.

He served his country during World War 2, from December 19, 1945, until his discharge on May 9, 1947. Following his discharge he worked at the Ford Garage in Central City as a mechanic.

On April 9, 1948, he was united in marriage to Melva Monson, at Central City. They lived in Marquette, and in October of 1950, he stared Don’s Motor Service until 1962. They moved to Aurora and he worked at Farmade in Aurora until 1966, when he joined Aurora Auto Parts until his retirement.

Don was a member of the Aurora V.F.W. Post 4993 and belonged to the Central City American Legion Post. He was a member of the Nebraska Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, and he enjoyed fishing, gardening, trains, tinkering with small engines, working on old cars, and building with wood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grand daughter Tessa Vettel.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Melva of Aurora; one son Byron and his wife Sandra of Aurora; 2 daughters, Rhea Olsen and her husband Thomas of Hampton, Crystal Vettel and her husband David of Mt. Zion, Illinois; one brother Kenneth of Aurora; 7 grandchildren Jackie Ediger, Keo Herbig, Gerad Olsen, Alicia Olsen, Todd Vettel, Tim Vettel and Trevor Vettel; and one great grandson, Aaron Ediger.
