Eugene M. Heuermann

Eugene M. Heuermann, age 82, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at the Nebraska Veterans Home.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 15th at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. Rev. Caroline Price-Gibson will officiate. Interment will be at 1:30 P.M. Saturday in the Phillips Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made in care of family. OBITUARY: EUGENE HEUERMANN

Eugene Masters Heuermann, the son of Bernard B. and Maggie M. (Hartnell) Heuermann, was born on the family farm in Hamilton County, Nebraska on December 16, 1926 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on August 11, 2009, at the age of 82.

He grew up on the family farm in Hamilton County and graduated from Phillips High School in 1944. Gene served in the U.S. Army during the Occupation Japan before being honorably discharged in 1946. When Gene returned he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and received his Agronomy degree in 1951. He was a member of Farmhouse Fraternity.

On February 8, 1953, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Jean Elseman at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Omaha. He farmed in Hamilton County his entire life.

Gene was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Murphy Elevator Social Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn of Grand Island; six children, Ken (Beth) Heuermann of St. Louis, Missouri, Karen (Keith) Maurer of Columbus, Fred (Lourdes) Heuermann of Grand Island, Cheryl Furse of Grand Island, John (Svetlana) Heuermann of Moscow, Russia and Troy (Kristin) Heuermann of St. Paul, Minnesota and 14 grandchildren, David and Sarah Heuermann of St. Louis, MO, Anna Maurer of Columbus, Andrew, Laura, Renae and Brandon Heuermann of Grand Island, Chris and Tom Furse of Grand Island, Arina and Renata Heuermann of Moscow and Max, Maggie and Nolan of St. Paul, MN. He is also survived by a brother, Keith (Norma) Heuermann of Phillips and four sisters, Dorothy Nelson of Fresno, California, Elizabeth Heuermann of Salt Lake City, Utah, Martha (Ralph) Knobel of Fairbury and Alma (Norm) Rohlfing of Talmage.
