Alice Higby, age 84, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 26th at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Pastor Mary Scott will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: ALICE HIGBY
Alice Higby, the daughter of Jens and Viola (Lagoni) Christensen, was born at Marquette, Nebraska on January 7, 1928 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on May 23, 2012, at the age of 84.
She grew up on a farm near Marquette and graduated from Marquette High School. Following her graduation she worked at the ASCS in Aurora.
Alice was united in marriage to Vernon Higby on May 4, 1947 at her parent’s home in Marquette. After their marriage they lived in Fairmont for a brief period of time before moving to Marquette and then Aurora. During her working career in Aurora, Alice worked for the City of Aurora, Memorial Hospital as a Nurses Aid and in the Laundry Department, as a bookkeeper for Gar Eckerson at Eckerson Equipment, and Dick’s Café, JD’s Café, Tree Top, Waffles N More, Early Riser and Del’s Café in Henderson. Alice and Vern celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 4, 2012.
Alice enjoyed bowling and following the local Aurora stock car racers. Vern and Alice liked to go camping and fishing and going on bus tours as casino host and hostesses. They especially enjoyed following their children’s, grandchildren’s and great-great grandchild’s activities.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Aurora United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Larry Higby.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Vern Higby of Aurora; three daughters, Bonnie (Jim) Nickolaus of Hampton, Judy (Dennis) Roehrs of Hampton and Sherry (Rick) Otto of Grand Island; grandchildren, Rob (Melissa) Nickolaus, Ross (Theresa) Nickolaus, Steph (Wes) Harris, Shannon (Chase) Valasek, Tim (Alycia) Robertson, Derek Otto and Joshua Roehrs; great-grandchildren, Caleb Arnett, Brynn Nickolaus, Alyssa Harris, McKenzie Robertson, Carson Valasek, Tavin Nickolaus, Taylor Harris and Carter Robertson. She is also survived by brother, Nels (Frances) Christensen and sisters, Ethel Johansen and Elvera (Dwight) Willcock; sister-in-laws, Geraldine (Bob) Oldham and Barbara Higby.
