Thomas Holmes
Thomas Holmes, age 74, of Aurora, died Sunday morning, November 24, 2002, at his home in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 27th at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Rev. Brian Kottas will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: THOMAS HOLMES Thomas Dean Holmes, the son of Fred and Sophie (Pfister) Holmes, was born at Sutton, Nebraska on June 30, 1928 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on November 24, 2002, at the age of 74. He grew up in the Sutton area and then moved to Hampton and lived on a farm. Thomas graduated from Hampton High School in 1947. He served in the Army during the Korean War from January 10, 1951 and was honorably discharged on October 9, 1952. Thomas was awarded the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal with the Bronze Service Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, the United Nations Service Medal and the Overseas Bar for his military service. Thomas was united in marriage to Virginia Titman on November 23, 1952. They lived in Hampton where Thomas was a propane deliveryman for the Hampton United Coop and later for CarGill of Aurora. In 1987, they moved to Aurora where Thomas worked at the Edgerton Center in the maintenance department until his retirement. Thomas was a member of the Hampton American Legion and the Aurora Veterans Club. He was a member of the Hampton Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chief for several years. Thomas was awarded the Dr. Troester Community Service Award in 1969. He also was a volunteer at the Girl Scout Camp Beaver and a storm spotter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Johnson and Sophie Pfister Johnson; two brothers, Jim and Ken Holmes and two sisters, Helen Teter and LaVon Edigar. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Virginia Titman Holmes of Aurora; two children, Carla Richardson and her husband Mike of Greenfield, Indiana and Tim Holmes and his wife Michele of Grand Island; 4 grandchildren, Brock Hoegh and his wife Jordana of Omaha, Trevor Hoegh of Syracuse, Tara Hoegh of Greenfield, Indiana and Chelsea Holmes of Grand Island; two step-brothers, Ken Hall and Ken Johnson both of Iowa and many loved ones and friends. |
