Evelyn Hope

Evelyn Hope, age 82, of Aurora died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 5th at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: EVELYN HOPE

Evelyn Lydia Hope, the daughter of Carl and Florence (Liesemeyer) Damme, was born between Lorton and Talmage, Nebraska on June 21, 1925 and died at Grand Island, Nebraska on May 1, 2008, at the age of 82.

She graduated from Talmage High School in 1943. Evelyn worked for the School for the Blind in Nebraska City for six years as a maid.

On August 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert A. Hope at McWilliams Church near Talmage. They lived in Nebraska City for four years, before moving to Aurora in May of 1953. They had four children; Nancy, Gordon, Jon and Alan.

Evelyn was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, the Sarah Circle and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She loved to crochet and play bingo. They enjoyed traveling, taking bus tours and going to the China-Burma-India military reunions with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gordon Hope and an infant son.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her husband, Bob Hope of Aurora; daughter, Nancy (Dale) Sallans of Platte, South Dakota; two sons, Jon (Terri) Hope of Aurora and Alan Hope of Grand Island; 6 grandchildren, Jessica (Casey) Peterson, Nathaniel Sallans, Justin, Jamie, Jeremy and Joel Hope and 2 great-grandchildren, Breanna and Clark Peterson. She is also survived by a sister, Verna Gress of Nebraska City and brother, Raymond Damme of Talmage.
