OBITUARY: MONETHA HUENEFELD Monetha Nadine Huenefeld, the daughter of Reece and Hattie (Baker) Newman, was born near York, Nebraska on June 13, 1916 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on March 12, 2008, at the age of 91. Monetha grew up on a farm north of York, Nebraska. She attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from York High School. She attended the University of Nebraska, receiving a degree in Home Economics. She was among the first group of students to live in the Love Hall Residence on East Campus. It was during her college years that she met Charles. Monetha worked three years as an Extension Agent in Custer County. It was during these years in Broken Bow that a friend invited her to church where she accepted Christ as her Savior. This decision changed and shaped the focus of the rest of her life. Her passion and mission were to share the precious gospel message of Jesus with every person she encountered. She reached out to newcomers in the community, all of her neighbors, the sick, the needy and to prisoners. She attended Pleasant View Bible Church and Stockham Community Church. She ministered to her church family through prayers, cards, letters, phone call, meals and many words of encouragement. She was united in marriage to Charles Huenefeld at her mother’s home in Stromsburg, Nebraska on September 21, 1946. They moved into Charles’ childhood home on the farm southwest of Aurora, where they farmed and raised their family. Charles passed away on March 19, 1991. She remained in her home until failing health required her to move where she could have more help. Next to her love for the Lord was love for her family. It was shown through her prayers, notes of encouragement, birthday cards, gifts, phone calls and helping hands. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Elvon, and son-in-law, Steve Grantham. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her five children, Jeanette (Rondell) Friesen of Henderson, Kathy (Paul) Nauman of Giltner, Paul (Dori) Huenefeld and Dan (Linda) Huenefeld all of Aurora and Caroline (Greg) Epp of Giltner; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Alice Tucker of Aurora and Margie Newman of Salt Lake City, UT. |
