Virgie Hurst
Virgie Hurst, age 91, of Aurora died Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 24th at the First Christian Church in Aurora. Pastor Sam Fox will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. OBITUARY: VIRGIE HURST Virgie Mae Hurst, the daughter of Merle and Mae (Lewis) Jacobs, was born January 6, 1916 on the family farm in Hamilton County and died in Aurora, Nebraska on October 21, 2007, at the age of 91. Virgie grew up and attended schools in Hamilton County. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1933. Virgie was united in marriage to Melvin Douglas Hurst on November 27, 1938 at Aurora, Nebraska. Following their marriage they resided in Hamilton County. During the 1940’s she and her husband did defense work in California and Oklahoma. They returned to Hamilton County in 1944 and farmed until 1953. Virgie was Clerk of Hamilton County Selective Service Board for 17 years and she was associated with local insurance agencies until her retirement in 1984. Melvin preceded her in death on January 30, 1990. She was a lifetime member of the Aurora First Christian Church and served in many capacities. She enjoyed spending time with her family and working in her yard and flower garden. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and sister Velma Read. Those left to cherish her memory are her five children; sons, Gary Hurst of Hampton, Galen (Stephanie) Hurst of Aurora, and Gerald (Linda) Hurst of Incline Village, Nevada; daughters, Beverly (Boyd) White-Burhoop of Aurora and Connie (Dennie) Nielsen of Aurora; brothers, Ivan Jacobs of San Jose, California and Ronald (Karlene) Jacobs of Yakima, Washington; 8 grandchildren, Lisa Stanton, Jeremy White, Teresa Campbell, Matt, Brent and Chelsie Hurst, and Sarah and Steve Hurst; 6 great-grandchildren and other relatives and close friends. |
