Jean Jemison

Jean Jemison, age 83, of Aurora, died Monday morning, November 3, 2003, at Memorial Community Care.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, November 7th at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Rev. Brian Kottas will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: JEAN JEMISON

Jean Lucille Jemison, the daughter of Charles and Martha (Sharp) Jemison, was born in Aurora, Nebraska on August 31, 1920 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on November 3, 2003, at the age of 83.

She grew up in Giltner and graduated from Giltner High School. Jean went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She became a guidance counselor at Millard Lefler Junior High in Lincoln. Jean worked there until her retirement. She moved to Aurora in 1996 to be near her sister, who also moved to Aurora from New York.

Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church at Giltner and had attended the Church in Aurora since moving here. She was an avid Cornhusker fan. Jean did a lot of travelling over the years, some of her travels included researching her genealogy that was a real passion of hers. Jean was a member of the National Genealogy Society and the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution).

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, LeRoy and Earl Jemison and two sisters, Agnes Schrock and Inez Wright.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Caroline Nydegger of Aurora and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
