Hans Jensen

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 28, 1983 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Hans O. Jensen

Hans O. Jensen, the son of Carl and Elise Hansen Jensen, was born on a farm near Marquette, Nebraska, on April 18, 1898. His death occurred at Grand Island, Nebraska on December 24, 1983 at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 6 days.

His entire lifetime was spent in Hamilton County. He graduated from the Central City, Nebraska High School in April of 1917.

After his graduation he served in the infantry during World War I, receiving his discharge on December 22, 1918. He then attended Kearney State College for two years. Following his college work he returned to the farm and as engaged in farming for many years.

At an early age he was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kronborg, where he was an active member as long as his health permitted. He had served on the church council for several years.

On April 5, 1922 he was united in marriage to Helen B. Christensen. Four children were born to this union.

Hans had been active in farm, civic and political activities most of his adult life.

He served as Chairman of the Hamilton County AAA Committee from 1935 through 1939. 1939 to 1941 he served as Fieldman in an eight county area for the AAA and the PMA. 1957 through 1961 he served in the Nebraska State Legislature from this district and was Chairman of the Agricultural Committee.

1961-1962 he served the United States Department of Agriculture as Area Director for nine states in the Northwest area. 1962 to 1968 he served as State Chairman of the ASCS in charge of all programs in Nebraska.

He served as Mayor of Aurora for eight years.

He had served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of Goals for Nebraska.

He has also served on various other committees and was Past President of the Nebraska Ag Council; the Executive Committee of the Upper Blue River Resources District. 1969 to 1971 he was Chairman for the Hamilton County Chapter of the American Red Cross and had served as a volunteer in the Cornhusker Division of the American Red Cross. He served as Commodity Manager for the Hamilton County C.R.O.P. program for several years.

He was a past member of the Executive Committee for the Nebraska Planning and Zoning Commission.

As a veteran, he was a longtime member of the Lester S. Harter Post No. 42 of the American Legion and had served as Chaplain of the Post.

He was at the time of his death, a member of the Aurora Rotary Club; the Farmer’s Union; Nebraska Association of Elected Farmer Committeemen; the Aurora Chamber of Commerce; Vice President of the Jensen Farms, Inc. with his son, Maynard.

In 1960 he was State Chairman of the Campaign in Nebraska for Senator John Kennedy for President of the United States and in 1968 he served in the same capacity for Robert Kennedy’s Campaign for the same office.
