Maynard Jensen

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, September 21, 1990 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Maynard Wayne Jensen

Maynard Wayne Jensen, the son of Hans O. and Helen (Christensen) Jensen, was born December 15, 1924 at Marquette, Nebraska, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on September 19, 1990, at the age of 65 years, 9 months, and 4 days.

He grew up in Hamilton County where he attended rural schools, and Aurora High School, where he graduated. He attended one semester at the University of Nebraska. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 5, 1943, where he served until his discharge on April 14, 1946.

On June 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Lois M. Salman at Omaha, Nebraska.

Maynard farmed with his father near Aurora, and later took over the farming operation. He retired from active farming in 1978, but continued to run his feed and fertilizer business.

Maynard was a member of the United Methodist Church, and was a life member of the Aurora VFW Post #4993. As a life member of Lester S. Harter Post #42 of the American Legion, he served as commander in 1965. He was District Commander of the American Legion in 1969-70; Department Commander of the American Legion in 1972, and was a member of 40 & 8.

Maynard was a member of Aurora Masonic Lodge #68 AF & AM, Scottish Rite, Tehama Temple Shrine in Hastings, and the Shrine Motor Patrol. He had always been active in the Nebraska Democratic Party. He was a member of the Nebraska Organization of Volunteer Leaders of which he was a past president, and had received the award of Volunteer of the Year this past summer. People involved with the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island thought very highly of Maynard as he had unselfishly spent many hours of volunteer work there. He was a member of the Citizen Advocacy Program and was an advocate of a retarded man in Grand Island.

Maynard was a member of the Adult Education Council, and was president of Adult Basic Education for 5 years. He was a longtime member of the Livestock Feeders Association, and was past president. He received the Feeders Award in 1989.

Mr. Jensen was a member of the Nebraska Ag Council, American Sheep Producers Council, North Central Wool Marketing where he had served as director and president, National Wool Growers, was a director of Nebraska Water Resources Association, was chairman of the Nebraska Boys State Committee, and was a 13 gallon donor at the Red Cross Bloodmobile.

Maynard was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Lois, one daughter Gay May of Manhattan, Kansas; 3 sons, David, Andrew and Clinton all of Aurora; 2 sisters, Shirley Hansen of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Grace Potter of Aurora; 13 grandchildren and other relatives and many close friends.
