KENNETH JOHNSEN

Kenneth H. Johnsen, age 89, of Grand Island, died Friday morning, November 23, 2001, at the Hamilton Manor Care Home in Aurora.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A. M. Tuesday at the Messiah Lutheran Church at 7th and Locust in Grand Island. The Rev. Jack Eske will officiate. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery at Kronborg. Visitation hours will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Kenneth Herluff Johnsen, the son of Mike and Sena (Jensen) Johnsen, was born at Marquette, Nebraska, on January 20, 1912, and died at Aurora, Nebraska on November 23, 2001, at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 3 days.

He grew up at Marquette and graduated salutatorian from Marquette High School. Following graduation he farmed with his parents.

On April 20, 1940, he was united in marriage to Norma Peterson at Lincoln. They lived in Aurora until 1944, when they moved to Grand Island. Norma preceded him in death on March 25, 1970.

Ken was an office manager for the REA for many years, and worked for them until his retirement. Following the death of his wife he managed the Hamilton Motor Inn at Aurora for a short time.

On January 18, 1973, he married Norma (Hansen) Shuey at Omaha. They lived in Omaha until she retired and they moved to Grand Island, where they have since resided. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. On October 18, 2001, he entered Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Norma, and infant twins, and one sister Agnes Hoegh.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Norma of Grand Island; one son Bob and his wife Donna of Fallbrook, California; two stepsons, Russell Shuey of Valley, and Steve Shuey of Genoa; 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
