Reuben Joseph

Funeral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Friday, November 10, 1995 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton. Interment was held in the Hampton Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Reuben Carl Joseph

Reuben “R.C.” Joseph, the son of Albert and Marie Rhode Joseph, was born January 25, 1926 at Polk, Nebraska and died November 7, 1995 at his home in Hampton, Nebraska at the age of 69 years, 9 months, and 12 days.

He grew up in the Polk and Hampton area, where he attended school. He was baptized at Imanuel Lutheran Church in Polk, and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church near Hampton.

R.C. entered the U.S. Navy in January of 1944, graduated from diesel mechanics school and served on the LSM 285 in China. He was discharged in January of 1947. He worked in an Omaha packing plant before returning to Hampton in 1948, when he began farming.

On September 23, 1949, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Elkjer at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Kronborg, Nebraska. They farmed in the Hampton area.

He served on the Hampton Co-op Elevator board, the school board, county and state extension boards, Famers Union board, and various church offices. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, was a 4-H leader for 15 years, and was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame. He was a charter member of the Hampton American Legion Post #141.

R.C. was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Arnold Joseph.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Evelyn of Hampton, 2 sons, Jan and his wife Ann of Valentine, Nebraska and Jerl and his wife Debbie of Hampton, 3 brothers, Lawrence of Pueblo, Colorado, Gerhard of Hampton, and Bob of Billings, Montana, 1 sister Roberta Sackschewsky of Waco, Nebraska, 5 grandchildren, Katie Ann, Jill Lyn, Amos, Eric and Tyler, and nieces and nephews.
