Bernice Kalkwarf

Bernice Kalkwarf, age 80, of Aurora, died Monday morning, November 24, 2003, at her home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 28th at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. George Damm will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: BERNICE KALKWARF

Bernice Lucille Kalkwarf, the daughter of Delmar and Sophia (Stutheit) Wells, was born in Crete, Nebraska on July 20, 1923 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on November 24, 2003, at the age of 80.

She grew up in Crete and graduated from Crete High School in 1941.

Bernice was united in marriage to Lester John Kalkwarf on July 30, 1942 at Wilbur, Nebraska. The couple had farmed north of Crete until purchasing Ford Motor Company in Crete. They purchased the farm north of Aurora in 1959, where they worked side by side in the farming operation. Lester passed away on their 50th wedding Anniversary July 30, 1992.

Bernice was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton and the Ladies Aide.

Her parents, husband, grandson Terry Belka; sister, Lorraine Matthews and three brothers, Raymond, Harold and Delton Wells preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, June Ann Bartek of Aurora, Karen Kay Farber and her husband Chuck of Grand Island, Marlene Marie Hinrichs and her husband Darrell of Giltner and Ronald Lee Kalkwarf and his wife Deb of Aurora; 10 grandchildren, Teresa McDonald, Rick Farber, Tracy Carter, Shelly Anderson, Mike, Matt, Mitch and Megan Hinrichs, Marcy Erickson and Ryan Kalkwarf and 18 great-grandchildren.
