Wesley Blaine Kauffman, the son of Elmer and Katherine (Felter) Kauffman, was born October 13, 1909, at Bloomington, Illinois, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, after a lengthy illness with cancer, on February 28, 1992, at the age of 82 years, 4 months, and 15 days.
In March of 1912, the family moved to a farm 6 miles north of Aurora, Nebraska, where he grew up and attended District #63, Pineknot School.
On March 2, 1932, he was united in marriage to Helga Andersen, at Grand Island. They would have observed their 60th wedding anniversary on Monday, March 2nd. They farmed in the Phillips area until 1935, when they moved to a farm near Marquette, and remained in that area until December of 1956, when they moved to Columbus, where Wesley worked as a skilled welder at Behlen Manufacturing Company, until his retirement in October 1971. In January of 1976, they retired to Aurora to make their home. In May of 1989, he entered the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Wesley’s great interest was in his shop where he made many things. He was also a volunteer at the Plainsman Museum in Aurora until his health failed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his eldest son First Lieutenant Alan B. Kauffman, who lost his life at age 26, in the service of his country in the Strategic Air Command as a pilot.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Helga of Aurora; one son Clayton of Grand Island; a daughter Barbara Kleve of Garden Grove, California; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
