After their marriage she worked as a practical nurse for the Steenburgs, and area doctors, and helped deliver many babies through the years. She and Jim lived on the farm for several years, and they took in may children to live with them.

Gladys was a faithful member of the Aurora Presbyterian United Church of Christ. She was also a charter member of the VFW Club, was active in 4-H and extension work, and was an avid bridge player. She and her late husband did extensive traveling, and were members of the Good Sam Trailer Club. In 1967 she was chosen by the local sororities as the Lady of the Rose.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, Charles, Estyle, and Dean Jeffers; 3 sisters, Vera Jacques, Doris Blackburn, and Freeda Snoberger.
