Robert Kirkpatrick, Sr.

Robert Kirkpatrick, Sr. age 77, of Aurora died Thursday evening, October 28, 1999, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday at the Assembly of God Church in Aurora. Rev. Jim Garfield will officiate. Interment will be at Harvard Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 Sunday at Higby Mortuary.

OBITUARY: ROBERT KIRKPATRICK, Sr.

Robert Gail Kirkpatrick, Sr. the son of William A. and Martha E. (Smith) Kirkpatrick, was born in Grand River, Iowa on July 11, 1922 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on October 28, 1999, at the age of 77 years 3 months and 17 days.

Bob grew up in Aurora, left at an early age to work as a cowboy in Torrington, Wyoming. He was drafted from Hamilton County in March 1943 to serve in WW II. He served in England, France, Austria and Germany. He participated in the Battle of the Rhineland and Central Europe including the Battle of the Bulge.

He was united in marriage to Hattie Cook on December 16, 1946 in Mankato, Kansas. They lived in Aurora for six months, and then spent 22 years of traveling and living in different places while Bob was in the Army. In 1966 they moved to back to Aurora where he worked as Custodian at the County Courthouse. In 1969, they moved to Kearney so he could work as a counselor at Boy’s Training School until retiring from the State of Nebraska in 1983. They returned to Aurora in 1985. Hattie passed away on October 12, 1992.

He was a member of the American Legion and DAV. He enjoyed traveling and camping.

His parents, wife, one brother and three sisters preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Martha Farber of Gresham; one son Robert, Jr. of Harvard; step-daughter, Doris Burns of Sunnyvale, California; step-son Derald Siebert of Pleasanton, California; three sisters, Rosie Doell and Doris Preston of Aurora and Gertrude Birkinbine of Yakama, Washington; one brother, Jim Kirkpatrick of Sheridan, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a special friend, Edie Decker.
