George J. Kliewer

George J. Kliewer, age 81, of Aurora, died Tuesday afternoon, August 27, 2002, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 31st at the Stockham Community Church. Rev. Paul Nauman will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com.


George J. Kliewer, the son of John H. and Katherina (Ott) Kliewer, was born at home near Henderson, Nebraska on September 4, 1920 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on August 27, 2002, at the age of 81.

George grew up south of Henderson and attended school at District #31 through the 8th grade, while he helped at home on the farm. George was drafted on August 11, 1942 to serve during WW II. He worked the C.P.S. Unit #66 at Norristown, Pennsylvania. George was discharged on March 22, 1946 after serving for 3 years, 7 months and 11 days. He returned to Nebraska to help his parents farm and also work at the Sinclair Filling Station for Vern Ingram.

George was united in marriage to Delores Irene Paschke on September 24, 1950, at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church at Phillips, Nebraska. They farmed, raised livestock and did custom corn shelling while living on the Sylvia Mills farm for 12 years. They purchased the farm of LeRoy Jemison where they farmed for 25 years. In 1987 they moved to Aurora. He continued to help his sons farm as long as his health permitted.

George was a member of the Stockham Community Church. He loved farming and playing the harmonica, travel and attending family reunions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers: John, Albert, Henry, Frank and Abe; two sisters, Susie and Tena and three sisters-in-law, Catherine Kliewer, Nola Kliewer and Margaret Kliewer.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Delores of Aurora; four sons, Dennis G. and his wife Shirley of Bradshaw, Denton L. and his wife Barbara of Aurora, Kenneth E. and his wife Brenda of Kinsley, Kansas and Gary A. and his wife Dede of Weldona, Colorado; one daughter, Rita Wilkins and her husband E. Scott of Papillion; 10 grandchildren, Christina, Corey & Kelsey Kliewer, Tamara & Timothy Kliewer, Stacey, Cara & Taunya Kliewer and Daniel & Shannon Wilkins and also one great-grandson, Timothy. George is also survived by his two brothers, David J. Kliewer and his wife Joyce of Aurora and Isaac Kliewer of El Dorado; sister, Justina Nunnenkamp and her husband Eugene of Aurora and sister-in-law, Agnes Kliewer of Aurora.
