Bernard Kramer

Bernard J. Kramer, age 86, of Aurora passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at the Hamilton Manor.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, June 1st at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. Fr. Dennis Hunt will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 P.M. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given for the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the family. OBITUARY: BERNARD KRAMER

Bernard Joseph Kramer, was born on August 22, 1925 on a farm south of Baileyville, Kansas, son of Barney and Clara (Nolte) Kramer. He passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on May 29, 2012, at the age of 86.

Bernard entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during World War II, where he received the Purple Heart Ribbon. After the war he met and married Lucille Haverkamp. They were married February 12, 1949. They farmed south of Baileyville, where they also raised turkeys. Bernard got out of farming and hauled milk before entering into the bowling center business. They purchased their first bowling alley in Crawford, Nebraska, before moving to Aurora in 1966. Bernard and Lucille owned and operated Mapleway Lanes in Aurora for forty years.

Bernard was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he was head usher for many years, and an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Lifetime Member of the V.F.W and a 16-year member of the American Legion Post #42 in Aurora.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney & Clara Kramer, sister,Leoba, brothers, Francis, Clarence, Walter and Alvin.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Lucille (Lucy) of Aurora; three children, Grace Cooper of Goodyear, AZ, Larry (Judy) Kramer of Omaha and Joyce (Paul) Clayton of Central City; four grandchildren, Brady (Sheila) Clayton of Lincoln, Adam Clayton of Lincoln, Christine Kramer of Chicago, IL and Kelsey Kramer of Omaha and three sisters, Mary Agnes Holtgraver Gardner, KS, Alma Haug of Harrisonville, MO and Betty Baldwin of Wichita, KS.
