Genevieve Lombardo
Genevieve Lombardo, age 86, of Grand Island, formerly of Giltner, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Golden Living Center Lakeview in Grand Island. Funeral Services will be held 2:30 P.M., Wednesday, September 21st at the Giltner United Methodist Church. Pastor Marta Wheeler will officiate. Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. OBITUARY: GENEVIEVE LOMBARDO Genevieve B. Lombardo, the daughter of George and Mable (Sanders) Ballard, was born at Burwell, Nebraska on September 24, 1924 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on September 17, 2011, at the age of 86. Genevieve’s mother died at age 29 and she was raised by Charles and Maude Harrod, her uncle and aunt on her mothers side. She graduated from Giltner High School in 1942. Genevieve was united in marriage to Joseph Lombardo on November 20, 1943 at Belleville, Kansas. Following their marriage they lived in several locations due to her husband’s Marine Corps duties. They moved to Giltner in 1948. Three children were born to them, Carolyn, Charles and Russell. Joseph passed away on June 2, 1975. She was a member of the Giltner United Methodist Church, where she played the piano and organ. Genevieve was also a member of the Eastern Star. Genevieve enjoyed cooking for her family and working with her hands. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Charles (Barbara) Lombardo of Iselen, New Jersey and Russell (Lucinda) Lombardo of Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughter, Carolyn (Lyle) Casper of Grand Island; grandchildren, Marcus and Joseph Lombardo of Binghamton, New York, Krista Brown of Omaha and Caitlyn and Alison Lombardo of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 2 great-grandchildren, Jordan and Lauren Brown; and other family members and friends. |
