Nellie Luthy
Nellie Luthy, age 99, of Aurora, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Memorial Community Care. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 25th at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Dr. F. Cole Fowler and Pastor Mary Scott will officiate. Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. OBITUARY: NELLIE LUTHY Nellie Dee Luthy, the daughter of Arthur and Lottie (Grant) Peterson, was born in Phillips, Nebraska on December 2, 1910 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on June 22, 2010, at the age of 99. Nellie was baptized in the Methodist Faith at Phillips, later she transferred her membership to the Aurora United Brethren Church, which is now the Aurora United Methodist Church. She graduated from the Phillips High School Class of 1928 and attended Grand Island Business College. Nellie then did secretarial work in Grand Island. Nellie married Clarence Luthy on January 23, 1932. They had two sons, Robert Eugene and Dallas DeWayne. They lived on farms in the Murphy Community until they bought their own farm southeast of Aurora in 1948. In 1972, they built a new home and moved into Aurora. Clarence passed away on May 17, 2001. In her teenage years and after her marriage her musical talent was used very freely for church, funerals, weddings and community. She directed her church choir for 23 years. She was a member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge and served in the capacity of treasurer for 38 years. Nellie was a member of the Flora Belle Garden Club, the AARP, the Happy Hour Club in Murphy and the United Methodist Dorcas Circle and for six years delivered Altar flowers to the parents of newborns in the church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Robert (Bob) Luthy; brother, Herbert Peterson and sister, Gladys Peterson. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dallas (Babe) Luthy of Phillips; daughter-in-law, Martha Luthy of Helena, Montana; 6 grandchildren, Roberta Hayden, Carolyn (Douglas) Pence all of Aurora, Robert J. (Lori) Luthy of Sparks, Paul (Stacey) Luthy of Westminister, Colorado, Linda (Raymond) Simmons of Aurora and Kimberly (Gregg) Trumble of Phillips; 3 step-grandchildren at Helena, Montana; 15 great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren and other relatives and close friends. |
