OBITURARY: Harold “Curly” Lyon William Harold Lyon, the son of Charles and Emma (Maxson) Lyon, was born at Trumbull, Nebraska, on November 23, 1901, and died at Hastings, Nebraska, on July 6, 1995, at the age of 93 years, 7 months, and 13 days. He grew up and received his education at Trumbull, and worked wholesale and retail groceries most of his life. On March 12, 1922, he was united in marriage to Iris Wilson at Hastings. She preceded him in death on June 30, 1978. He owned and operated Lyons Grocery in Giltner from 1949 until he retired in 1966. He found pleasure and fulfillment in working, and after his retirement he worked with and aerial spraying service and Harv’s Farm Supply; as well as gardening and scooping paths through the snow in Giltner. In November of 1985, he left his home in Giltner, and moved into the Good Samaritan Villiage in Hastings, where he resided until his death. Many knew him as “Curly” and will remember him for his quick wit and sense of humor. If asked how he felt, he would most likely say, “if I felt any better, I couldn’t stand it.” He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Raymond and Doyle, and sisters Ida Webb and Lola Thorngate. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his 2 sons, Robert and his wife Alice of Billings, Montana and Wayne and his wife Arlene of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada; 3 daughters, Charlotte Mullison of Wray, Colorado, Patricia Hanson of Omaha, and Mary Graber and her husband Donald of Santa Cruz, Bolivia; 21 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. |
