Raymond Madsen

Raymond Madsen, age 84, of Hampton, died Friday morning, July 25, 2003, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.

Memorial Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 29th at the E.L.C. A. United Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. Chris Kester Beyer will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Church Cemetery. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials maybe made to the Pipe Organ Fund at the First Lutheran Church in Torrance, California or the United Lutheran Church in Hampton. OBITUARY: RAYMOND MADSEN

Raymond Madsen, the son of Hans and Lydia (Henriksen) Madsen, was born in Hampton, Nebraska on January 12, 1919 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on July 25, 2003, at the age of 84.

He grew up in Hampton and graduated from Hampton High School. Raymond moved to California to live with his sister, Agnes, and find work. He met his wife-to-be while she was on vacation in California. He was united in marriage to Georgialee Stephens on July 3, 1941 at Los Angeles, California. After an accident at work Raymond and Georgialee moved to Cleburne, Texas to be near family. Raymond was drafted into the Army to serve in World War II, after he was discharged in 1946 he returned to Texas to work full-time, rear four children and complete his degree at Texas Christian University, where he was on the Dean's List.

In 1962 moved to Los Angeles where he worked in the Aircraft Industry. Raymond earned his Masters Degree from Long Beach State. Retiring in 1989, he continued working as a consultant for several years after that. They moved back to Hampton on January 1, 2002. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid bowler.

Raymond has been very active in his church all through his life, both in Texas and California. Over the years he served in many roles including as a Board of Director for Southland Lutheran Home. He also was an Ombudsman for the State of California for eight years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Earl, Harry and Archie and two sisters, Agnes and Alice.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Georgialee of Hampton; four children, Linda Madsen of San Pedro, California, Dr. Don Madsen of Corpus Christi, Texas, Karl Madsen of Torrance, California and Sylvia Durham of Harbor City, California and 7 grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Hilda Madsen and Norma Kamtz, many nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
