Sophie Madsen

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 7, 1988 at the United Lutheran Church in Hampton. Interment was held in the Hampton Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Sophie Madsen

Sophie F. Madsen, the daughter of George and Viola (Elinger) Reeb, was born in Polk County, Nebraska, on June 25, 1898, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on March 4, 1988, at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 9 days.

She grew up in the Polk and Arborville area in Polk County and attended Immanuel Grade School.

On February 27, 1918, she married William Schaepler. They lived in the Polk area. He died on December 20, 1932.

In 1936 she moved to Hampton where she worked at the Sam Wall Grocery Store, and also as a seamstress. She also worked for the Hampton Co-op.

On January 25, 1951, she married Virgil E. Madsen, at Hampton. They lived in Grand Island form 1951 to 1955, and then at St. Michael. In 1959 they returned to Hampton.

Sophie was a member of the United Lutheran Church at Hampton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William; 3 step-brothers, Ernest, William, and Otto Kroeger; 2 step-sisters, Ida Wurtz and Lillie Branting, and a daughter Ardith.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her husband, Virgil; a daughter, Marjory Travis of Lincoln; a half-sister, Mae Lindgren of Ogallala; 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
