Dorothy Manka, age 74, of Phillips died Sunday evening, March 5, 2000, at Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday at the Higby Mortuary Chapel. Rev. James Garfield will officiate. Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 Wednesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
OBITUARY: DOROTHY MANKA
Dorothy Mae Manka, the daughter of George and Mazie (Grim) Wright, was born in Edinberg, Texas on June 9, 1925 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on March 5, 2000, at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 26 days.
She grew up in Phillips/Giltner area. Dorothy graduated from Phillips High School.
On March 14, 1945 she was united in marriage to Edwin Manka in Grand Island, Nebraska. They established their home on a farm near Phillips and farmed there until they retired in 1976. Edwin passed away in June 1976.
Dorothy was a member of Phillips Senior Citizens and was Secretary for the Phillips Cemetery. She liked to collect dolls. She had a company named Dots Dolls, where she made doll clothes, even clothes for Cabbage Patch dolls.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
She is survived by her two sons, Rodney Manka of Phillips and Mervin Manka of Roseburg, Oregon; one daughter, Linda Groelz of Phillips; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
