Lillian MayLillian May, age 76, of Phillips died Monday afternoon, December 13, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Thursday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Island. Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9, Wednesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora, Nebraska. Memorials may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Island. OBITUARY: LILLIAN MAY Lillian Frances May, the daughter of Stephen and Anna (Anderson) Andersen, was born in Marquette, Nebraska on September 21, 1923, and died in Aurora, Nebraska on December 13, 1999, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 22 days. She grew up in Marquette, where she was baptized into the Evangelical United Brethren Church. She graduated from Marquette High School. Lillian attended Nebraska Central College in Central City. She was a schoolteacher for 5 years in the Marquette vicinity. Lillian was united in marriage to Maynard May on July 19, 1945. They lived in Valentine, Grand Island, Denver, Colorado and Pueblo, Colorado. She was the church organist for 30 years at Pueblo, Colorado and Grand Island. Upon retirement they established their residence on a farm near Phillips. Lillian was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Island, Charity Circle of United Methodist Women, Christian Women’s Club, T.O.P.S. of America and Happy Hour Club of Aurora. She was a member of the Aurora Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she delivered mail to patients. She was a longtime member of Hamilton/Merrick County A.R.C. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Esther Pearson and Erma Travis, and one brother, Elmer Andersen. She is survived by her husband Maynard May of Phillips; one son Marion May of Axtell; two daughters, Cheri Leigh and her husband Garth of Kansas City, Missouri and Merrilee May of American Samoa; one grandson, Aaron Gay of American Samoa; three sisters, Edith McConnell of Grand Island, Ethel Johnson and her husband Einer of Central City and Lucille Nyblom of Aurora. |
