Shirley Mays, age 76, of Aurora, died Sunday, May 30, 2010, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, June 2nd at the First Christian Church in Aurora. Pastor Sam Fox will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. OBITUARY: SHIRLEY MAYS
Shirley Ann Mays, the daughter of Walter and Nellie (Aikman) White, was born on October 25, 1933 in Grand Island, Nebraska and died in Aurora, Nebraska on May 30, 2010, at the age of 76.
She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School.
Shirley was united in marriage to Floyd Allen Mays on September 19, 1954 at Grand Island, Nebraska. Following their marriage they resided in Aurora. Shirley worked at the Aurora News-Register for many years. She served as church secretary and worked at the Aurora Senior Center. Floyd passed away on May 27, 2007.
Shirley was a member of the First Christian Church where she served in many capacities. She was also a member of the Aurora Women’s Club and the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Following their retirement they enjoyed taking many bus tours.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Frances Jean Lute.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Donald (Robyn) Mays of Grand Island; daughters Kathleen Krogh of Lincoln and Deb (Bill) Belitz of Windsor, Colorado; She is also survived by grandchildren Matthew Wells of Westminster, Colorado, Jennifer (Adam) Breitenfeldt of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Aaron Krogh of Lincoln; great-grandson, Blayne Krogh; and other family members and friends.
