Floyd Mays
Floyd Mays, age 77, of Aurora died Sunday, May 27, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 31st at the First Christian Church in Aurora. Pastor Sam Fox will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. OBITUARY: FLOYD MAYS Floyd Allen Mays, the son of Guy R. and Bessie A. (Harris) Mays, was born December 3, 1929 in Gibbon, Nebraska and died in Aurora, Nebraska on May 27, 2007, at the age of 77. Floyd was raised in Shelton and attended Shelton Public Schools where he graduated from high school. Following high school he worked at the Ordnance Plant in Hastings, Nebraska. From 1952 to 1957 he served in the National Guard. Floyd worked for Wortman Motor Company as an automotive technician and air conditioning specialist in Aurora for 42 years. Floyd was united in marriage to Shirley Ann White on September 19, 1954 at Grand Island, Nebraska. Following their marriage they resided in Aurora. Floyd was a member of the Aurora First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and on many church boards. He was a member of the Aurora Lions Club and volunteered at the Plainsman Museum in Aurora. Floyd enjoyed working on cars and spending time in his garden. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Gerald Peterson. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Shirley of Aurora; son, Donald (Robyn) Mays of Grand Island; daughters Kathleen Krogh of Lincoln and Deb (Bill) Belitz of Windsor, Colorado. He is also survived by grandchildren Matthew Wells of Boulder, Colorado, Jennifer Wells and fiance Adam Breitenfeldt of Lincoln, and Aaron Krogh of Great Lakes, Illinois; and sisters Alice Mae (Carroll) Holl of Grangeville, Idaho and Ruby Peterson of Firestone, Colorado. |
