James McBrideFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 1, 1998 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery. OBITUARY: James McBride James Walter McBride, the son of Edgar and Eva Theresa (Coniff) McBride, was born at Blue Hill, Nebraska, on September 17, 1928, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on March 28, 1998, at the age of 69 years, 6 months, and 11 days. He grew up and received his education at Blue Hill, and attended Regis College in Denver, Colorado and St. Benedict’s College in Atchinson, Kansas. Following college he served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. On June 29, 1953, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Dorothy Lee Smalley at Loup City, Nebraska. They lived in Blue Hill, where he worked for the Commercial Bank of Blue Hill, served on the school board, the local housing authority board, and the board of the local Telephone Company. In 1970, he and his family moved to Aurora, where he was president of the Aurora First National Bank, until he retired from banking in 1986. He then opened Jim McBride realty, where he worked until his death. He was a well-known banker, both locally and nationally, having served as president of the Nebraska Bankers Association and on several national committees with the American Bankers Association. Locally, he was a member of the Farr and Mather Foundation board of directors and was an active member of the Rotary Club, and belonged to the Aurora American Legion. Jim was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora, was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a strong supporter of Catholic Education, sending all six of his children to Benedictine College and serving on the Benedictine College board of directors, and received the Cross of the Order of St. Benedict’s. He was preceded in death by his parents. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Dorothy of Aurora; four sons, Patrick and his wife Mary Pat of Lincoln, Stephen and his wife Peggy of Olathe, Kansas, Terrence and his wife Dee Dee of Omaha, and John and his wife Kerry of Minden; two daughters, Susan Paine and her husband Dennis of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jane Sullivan and her husband Mark of Overland Park, Kansas; one brother E.J. McBride and his wife Ilene of Lincoln; three sisters, Margaret Kucera and her husband Dan of Havre, Montana, Ann Harrison and her husband Frank of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and Frances Hydeman of Gardner, Kansas, and 18 grandchildren. |
