Lyle McConaugheyFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 13, 1984 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: Lyle McConaughey Lyle B. McConaughey, the son of Ora T. and Katheryn Lee (Kinner) McConaughey, was born at Aurora, Nebraska, on January 18, 1895, and passed away suddenly at Aurora, Nebraska, on August 9, 1984, at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 12 days. His grandfather was a homesteader in Grant Precinct in 1871, however, the family farm was in Orville Precinct and Lyle lived there until 1925, when he moved to Aurora and later to Stockham. He attended District No. 11 and No. 30 schools, and Stockham High School. In 1913 and 1914, he attended the school of agriculture in Lincoln. On January 6, 1917, he was married to Beulah Marie Rose, at Columbus, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on November 2, 1979. They farmed in Orville Precinct, near Stockham until 1925, and then moved to Aurora and later to Stockham. From 1928 to 1930, the family lived in Cherry County, returning to Aurora where he was hired by the Aurora Schools at the High School. In February 1938, he was appointed deputy sheriff by A.L. (Jack) Andrews where he was jailer and deputy until November of 1952. In 1953, he worked as a guard at the Silas Mason Company Ordinance Plant in Grand Island, during the Korean Conflict. In 1954, he was elected clerk of the District Court, where he served three terms, leaving in 1967 at retirement. Lyle was a noted Hamilton County Historian an active member of the Historical Society. He had served on the museum board since 1965. In 1982 he was presented the Community Service award by the Aurora Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beulah, 5 sons, Andrew, Theadore, Robert, James and Nathan, and one daughter Hazel McConaughey. Those who remain to cherish his memory are two daughters, Dorothy Miller of Aurora and Miriam Hagelin of Lakewood, Colorado; three brothers, Vern of Aurora, Donald of North Hollywood, California and Myrl of Hemet, California; two sisters, Laurine Kuhn of Emerson, Nebraska and Dorothy Hansen of Aurora; six grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and close friends. |
