Maurice Medaris
Maurice "Mose" Medaris, age 82, formerly of Aurora, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, in Olathe, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday at the Presbyterian U.C.C. in Aurora. Rev. Monty Nelson and Rev. Mark Dunham will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery, with full military honors. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at Higby Mortuary. OBITUARY: MAURICE MEDARIS Maurice "Mose" Eugene Medaris, the son of J. Austin and Annie (Hartnell) Medaris, was born in Aurora, Nebraska on November 16, 1918 and died in Olathe, Kansas on April 14, 2001, at the age of 82 years. Mose grew up in the Stockham/Aurora area and graduated from Aurora High School. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry. Mose was in ROTC during college and rose to the rank of Captain during World War II, serving in the Army Artillery in North Africa and Italy. On March 21, 1952, he was united in marriage to Anna Penner in Aurora. They lived in Aurora where Mose was a Cattleman and Farmer. Later, after 13 years of employment with the Soil Conservation Service, he retired in 1987. They moved to Olathe in 1993 to nearer their immediate family. Mose was an active member of the Federated Church (Presbyterian U.C.C.) for many years. He also had been the Commander of the V.F.W. and held office in the American Legion. He enjoyed horses, photography, reading, gardening and fishing. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents. Maurice is survived by his wife Anna of Olathe, Kansas; two sons, James E. Medaris of Lawrence, Kansas and Jerry W. Medaris of Olathe, Kansas; grandson, Adam N. Medaris of Olathe, Kansas; a sister, Ruth Ann Leymaster and her husband Homer of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one niece and two nephews. |
