LaVelle Meier

LaVelle Meier, age 79, of Aurora, widow of Walt, died Friday afternoon, at the Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday morning at the Aurora Cemetery. The Rev. Al Duminy will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Following the committal service a lunch will be served at the Aurora Messiah Lutheran Church. People unable to attend the graveside services are welcome to attend.

Obituary: LAVELLE MEIER

LaVelle Meier, the daughter of Willard & Lottie (Brewster) Cox, was born in Long Pine, Nebraska, on August 19, 1921, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on July 13, 2001, at the age of 79 years.

She grew up in Long Pine, until age 10, when they moved to Harrison following her father's death. She graduated from Harrison High School in 1939. After graduation she was employed at the Sioux County Court House.

On August 12, 1940, she was united in marriage to Walter Meier at Chadron, Nebraska. They resided in Alliance and Scottsbluff before settling in Aurora in 1946, where they bought the Southside Grocery Store and later the Mazda Theater, which they operated for 25 years. Walt preceded her in death on June 13, 1997.

LaVelle was a member of the Aurora Messiah Lutheran Church, belonged to the Aurora American Legion Auxiliary, and was a member of the 9th Street Birthday Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a step-father, and a step-brother.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her two sons, Terry and his wife Cheryl of Wheatland, Wyoming, and Greg and his wife Connie of Aurora: four grandchildren, Scott and his wife Elizabeth of Tallahasee, Florida, Skipper of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Monica and Brent both of Aurora.
