Wallace MenzieFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 4, 1990 at Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings, Nebraska. Interment was held in the Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. OBITUARY: Wallace Menzie Wallace Harold Menzie, the son of Upton and Elizabeth (Jones) Menzie, was born at Giltner, Nebraska, on January 2, 1894, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on April 1, 1990, at the age of 96 years, 2 months, and 29 days. He grew up at Giltner and attended Giltner schools through the 11th grade, and graduated from Omaha High School, where he was a member of the Glee Club. He was orphaned at an early age. On January 7, 1914, he was united in marriage to Hazel Galaway at Live Oak, California. They homesteaded in Alberta, Canada, where he had to swear allegiance to the King of England to receive his title to the homestead. Their first 2 years of marriage were spent in a 9 by 12 foot home. They farmed in Colorado and Nebraska, however, they spent many years in Aurora, where they raised their family. In 1927, Wallace joined the staff of Metropolitan Life as a salesman. He retired in 1959 and they moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, and they moved to the Hamilton Manor in Aurora in 1988. Mrs. Menzie preceded him in death on June 27, 1988. Wallace was a 60 year member of the Aurora Masonic Lodge, and was also a member of the United Methodist Church. He spent a lifetime of singing in quartets, choruses, choirs, and solos, and had sung for over 1,000 funerals. “God gave me a voice to be used.” He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Gerald in 1961, and 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his son Norman of Derby, Kansas, one daughter Melva Ronne of Eaton, Colorado; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, several nieces and nephews, including Mildred Mays of Aurora. |
