Emma "Jayne" Mersch
Emma "Jayne" Mersch, age 89, of Aurora, died Saturday, September 7, 2002, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 10th at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Rev. Brian Kottas and Rev. Seth Leypoldt will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or Tabitha Hospice. OBITUARY: EMMA "JAYNE" MERSCH
Emma "Jayne" Mersch, the daughter of Orsamus Wilbur and Belle Aurelia (Meyers) Cass, was born at home near Aurora, Nebraska on June 6, 1913 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on September 7, 2002, at the age of 89.
She grew up near Aurora and attended country school. Jayne graduated from Aurora High School in 1932. She worked for the Schoonover family prior to her marriage.
Jayne was united in marriage to George Mersch on September 5, 1934 at the Methodist parsonage in York. They lived with George's parents for one year and then rented a nearby farm for nine years, before they bought their farm southwest of Aurora in 1945. Jayne shared the duties of maintaining the farm with her husband and raising her family. In 1990, for the first time in the history of the Feeders Banquet, the Hamilton County Pork Producers and the Hamilton County Livestock Feeders jointly honored the couple as long-time livestock producers.
Jayne was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church and Dorcas Circle. In her younger years, she sang at weddings and enjoyed participating in state competitions. Her interests included gardening, quilting, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Brent Joyce; two brothers, Wilbur and Warren Cass; and two sisters, Helen Mekara and Gwen Penner.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband George of Aurora; two daughters, Karen Joyce and her husband Gary of Aurora and Nancy Underwood and her husband Ron of Grand Island; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
