Leon Messman

Funeral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 23, 1993 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. Interment was held in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Leon Messman

Leon Guy Messman, the son of William and Dora (Wolter) Messman, was born at Strang, Nebraska, on August 3, 1904, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on July 20, 1993, at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 17 days.

He grew up at Strang and attended Strang Schools.

On May 3, 1927, he was united in marriage to Wylma Decker at Hebron, Nebraska. They had observed their 66th wedding anniversary.

Leon was involved in banking until he was appointed Strang Post Master in 1935, where he served until he became a rural mail carrier at Grafton, Nebraska in 1943. In 1955, he transferred to Aurora where he was a rural mail carrier until his retirement on July 1, 1970. In May of 1992, he entered the Memorial Care Center at the Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

At the time of his death he was the oldest living male member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora.

He was the last member of his generation, and was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Walter, Fred, Jess, Elmer, and Edwin; 2 sisters, Hazel Messman and Grace Eich.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Wylma; his son Ron and his wife Jan, all of Aurora, and nieces and nephews.
