Wylma Messman

Wylma Messman, age 98, of Aurora died Thursday, November 15, 2007, at Memorial Community Care.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, November 19th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. Fr. Dennis Hunt will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary, with the Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: WYLMA MESSMAN

Wylma Irene Messman, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Rouse) Decker, was born at Ohiowa, Nebraska on September 1, 1909 and died at Aurora, Nebraska on November 15, 2007, at the age of 98.

She was raised on a farm near Ohiowa, and attended schools at Ohiowa, Plattsmouth, and Strang. On May 3, 1927, she was united in marriage to Leon Messman at Hebron. They lived in Strang, Grafton, and in 1954, they moved to Aurora, where she has since resided. Leon preceded her in death on July 20, 1993. In September of 2005, she entered Memorial Community Care in Aurora.

She was a member of Aurora St. Mary’s Catholic Church, was a long time choir member, belonged to the Altar Society and was the oldest member of the church. Her church was a large part of her life. She taught piano for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters, Ethel Stander and Mina Heironymus – Sillanpaa and Mabel Ernst.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son Ron and his wife Jan of Aurora, and many nieces and nephews.
