Lenora Meyer

Lenora Meyer, age 89, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011, at the Hamilton Manor.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 1st at the Higby-McQuiston Chapel in Aurora. Pastor Sheryl Kester Beyer will officiate. Graveside Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 2nd at the Rosehill Cemetery at Rose, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church or Rosehill Cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: LENORA MEYER

Lenora ‘Lee’ May Meyer was born on May 24, 1921, at Sybrant, Nebraska to Zelda and Leonard Forbes. Her mother passed away when Lee was 13 days old, she was then raised by her father and step-mother, Maude Lane. She was a lifelong resident of Nebraska.

On June 25, 1944, she married Walter Meyer at Denver, Colorado. Their marriage was blessed by three children, Richard, Janeth and Daveta. She loved working on the family ranch south of Bassett with her husband. In addition, she taught rural school for 26 years. Walter passed away on June 30, 1989.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bassett where she was an active member until 1979 when they moved to Aurora and transferred membership to Messiah Lutheran Church. She was also an active Farm Bureau member while residing in Rock County. Her hobbies included sewing, painting, gardening and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and stepmother, infant sister Dorothy Forbes, brother, Raymond Forbes and one grandson, Brandon Brader.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children and spouses: Richard and Connie Meyer of Aurora, Jann Meyer of Blue Hill and Daveta and Dick Brader of Glenvil; grandchildren and spouses, Laurie Meyer, Keely Rogers, Bryan and LeAnne Meyer, Kasey and Jackie Rogers, Kevin Meyer, Justin and Stephanie Brader and Kerry Brader and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Mildred Welton of Wenatchee, Washington, Sylva Dixon of Burwell, Agnes Frahm and Ferne Briggs of Chambers and nieces, nephews and many friends.
