E. J. Mills

E.J. Mills, age 85, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Memorial Community Care.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 17th at the Higby-McQuiston Chapel in Aurora. Rev. Jim Garfield will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 P.M. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. The family will greet friends from 5 - 7. OBITUARY: E. J. MILLS

E. J. Mills, the son of Harold J. and Sylvia (Kerr) Mills, was born in Arapahoe, Nebraska on August 1, 1923 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on July 14, 2009, at the age of 85.

At the age of 3, E.J.’s family moved to Kansas City, Missouri. He attended grade school and West Port High School in Kansas City. On September 11, 1941 he enlisted into the United States Army. E.J. was honorably discharged on October 17, 1945.

On August 20, 1946, E. J. was united in marriage to Evelyn Knoop at Norton, Kansas. He worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads for 17 years then went to work for the City of Aurora as Commissioner of the Street Department until he retired because of ill health.

He was an avid fisherman and camper. E.J. enjoyed his family, especially when they all were at their cabin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald, who died at birth, and one sister, Marguerite Bosanko.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Evelyn Mills of Aurora; three children, Bud (Louise) Mills, Mary Colfack and Robert (Cheryl) Mills all of Aurora; 8 grandchildren, Buck (Chris) Mills of Bellwood, Jennifer (Al) Znamenacek of Ashland, Sandy (Tony) Brammen of Hastings, Chad (Stephanie) Colfack of Cedar Hills, Utah, Tara Johnson and Molly (Russ) Jacobitz of Grand Island, Bowen Mills of York and Lucas Mills of Omaha; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, H.J. (Barbara) Mills of Edwards, Missouri and many nieces and nephews.
