Fred MoistFuneral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 14, 1983 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Richland Cemetery near Marquette. OBITUARY: Fred S. Moist Fred S. Moist, the son of Joseph and Mary Henderson Moist, was born January 15, 1890 in York County, Nebraska. His death occurred at Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 9, 1983, having attained the age of 93 years, 1 month and 24 days. As a small boy the family moved to the Marquette vicinity. He attained his education in the Public Schools near his parents’ home. He had resided in the Marquette vicinity most of his lifetime. On December 16, 1909 he was united in marriage to Christine Olson at York, Nebraska. They established their home in Marquette, where he was employed in the Marquette Mercantile Company until 1917, when they moved to a farm near Marquette, where they farmed until 1933. In 1933 they moved back into Marquette, where he operated a plumbing shop and windmill repair service. In 1940 they moved to California, where he was employed as a plumber in the Lockhead Aircraft factory, until 1946, when they returned to Marquette. He was employed for several years as a plumber for the Pence Hardware in Aurora. His wife preceded him in death in 1967. Since then he has continued to reside in Marquette and spent his winters with his daughters. Five years ago, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and made his home with one of his daughters. Fred was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Marquette, until two years ago, he transferred his membership to a United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge in Marquette for many years. Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, three brothers, Grover, George and John Moist, one sister, Mrs. Emma Fenster and two grandchildren. Those who remain to cherish his memory are two daughters, Mrs. Margie Burton of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Mrs. Elaine Mitchell of San Fernando, California; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many close friends. |
