Funeral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, November 3, 1988 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Aurora. Interment was held in the Arborville Cemetery in Polk, Nebraska.

OBITUARY: Mary Monson

Mary Elsie Monson, the daughter of Ernest and Augusta (Schultz) Matthes, was born at Hampton, Nebraska, on May 30, 1900, and passed away at Sutton, Nebraska, on October 31, 1988, at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 1 day.

She attended Zion Lutheran Church School, and was confirmed in 1914. She lived at home and kept house for her brother Alvin.

On June 17, 1927, she was united in marriage to Gust Monson, at Osceola, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on February 20, 1952. They lived north of Polk, and in 1947, they moved into Polk. In 1970 she moved to the Crossroads Court in Aurora, and she has lived at the Sutton Community Home since March of this year.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 10 brothers and sisters, and a great-granddaughter, Tessa Renee Vettle.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her 2 daughters, Melva Herbig of Aurora and Donna Werner of Polk; 2 sisters, Margaret VanOstrand of Sycamore, Illinois and Alma Dadey of Marquette. 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law Irene Matthes of Spencer, Indiana.
