Santos MontelongoSantos Montelongo, age 97, of Aurora, died Saturday morning, May 15th, at his home in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday morning, May 19th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. Father John Keefe will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 3 – 5 and 7 – 9 P.M. Tuesday evening, at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M., at the mortuary. OBITUARY: Santos Montelongo Santos Montelongo, the son of Evaristo and Concepcion (Hernandez) Montelongo, was born in Hacieda Del Ojo, Mexico, on November 2, 1901, and died at his home in Aurora, Nebraska, on May 15, 1999 at the age of 97 years. He grew up in the state of Durango, Mexico, where he attended elementary school. He served as a soldier in the Mexican Revolutionary War from 1915 until 1919. In 1926, he married Catalina DeLara, and four children were born to this union. She preceded him in death in 1935. On December 26, 1938, he married Maria Gonzales, and 7 living children were born to this marriage. In 1944, he came to Pennsylvania as a Mexican National (Brasero), to work on the railroad. Following World War II he migrated to several different states as a migrant worker. On April 29, 19567, he settled in Aurora, which became his home, except for a few years spent in El Paso, Texas. In his native country he made his living by farming, a professional barber, and grocer. While living in Nebraska, he was employed by Maurcie Kremer, and also did lawn work til retirement in 1967. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two daughters, Estella Garcia and Sophia Torres, a grandson, Jesse Garcia, a granddaughter, Leticia Sauceda, and four infant children. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Maria of Aurora; 5 sons, Jerry of Grand Island, Greg of Aurora, Santos Jr., Mike and Frank all of El Paso, Texas; 3 daughters, Guadalupe Casares of Los Fresno, Texas, Mary Tournor of Hastings, and Melinda Moore of Aurora; 34 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 15 great great-grandchildren. |
