Thomas Myers
Thomas Myers, age 90, of Grand Island, died Tuesday afternoon, December 25, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held 2:30 P.M. Friday at the Chapel of Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Interment will be in Phillips Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 P.M. to 8 P.M. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: THOMAS MYERS Thomas A. Myers, the son of John M. and Catherine (Hansen) Myers, was born in Wolbach, Nebraska on March 20, 1911 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on December 25, 2001, at the age of 90 years. He was raised on the family farm near Cushing, Nebraska. Thomas attended country school through the 8th grade. He left school to help his father on the family farm. Thomas was united in marriage to Ella Reid on March 27, 1932, at St. Paul, Nebraska. After their marriage they lived on his parents farm near St. Paul, until moving to Grand Island, where he worked for the railroad. Thomas also worked for Diamond Engineers and Bushman in Grand Island. In 1972, they retired and moved to Phillips, where Thomas began helping to take care of the Phillips Cemetery, which he did for over 10 years. Ella passed away on April 28, 1992. He was a longtime member of The Oddfellows in Grand Island. Thomas enjoyed participating in activities at the Phillips Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother Jesse, two sisters, Esther and an infant sister, and a grandson, Michael Myers. Thomas is survived by his son, James of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter, Deanna Berg and her husband Donald of Grand Island; 5 grandchildren and one sister, Leona Kenworthy of Kennewick, Washington. |
