Gereon Nelson

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 28, 1984 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Gereon Nelson

Gereon Gustav Nelson, the son of Nels and Amelia (Nilson) Eriksson, was born in Vekhyttan, Sweden, on July 1, 1895, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on December 23, 1984, at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 22 days.

His childhood was spent in Sweden, where he was an apprentice blacksmith. In 1912, he came to the United States, to Kansas City, where he worked for an uncle and on farms in that vicinity. Then he came to the Stockham community in Hamilton County where he farmed for 50 years.

On June 8, 1927, he was united in marriage to Anna Anderson, at Aurora. She preceded him in death on September 8, 1974.

As a young man in the Stockham community he played the violin and guitar in dance bands and enjoyed music. He had a great sense of humor and loved to write poetry. Some of which has been published, but it was mostly for the enjoyment of himself and his family.

Gereon was confirmed and baptized in the Lutheran Church in Sweden. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge, and had recently been presented the Jordan Medal as the oldest member of the Lodge. He also served several years on the Hamilton County ASCS Committee and had served as chairman. In 1972, he mad a long awaited return trip to Sweden, where he visited a sister and brother and other relatives.

He had resided in Aurora for several years, and the last few years were spent in the Hamilton Manor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister and three brothers.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are one son, Charles of Billings, Montana; one daughter, Joy Oakley of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one sister, Marta Larsson of Karlstad, Sweden; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew and other relatives and friends.
