Norma NelsonNorma Nelson, age 89, formerly of Aurora died Tuesday, November 28, 2000 at Magnolia South Regional Personal Care in Union, Mississippi. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday at the Aurora Cemetery. Pastor Karl Larson will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Monday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora OBITUARY: NORMA NELSON Norma Kearns Nelson, the daughter of Albert “Jack” and LaVina (Kearns) Andrews was born in Aurora, Nebraska on August 30, 1911 and died in Union, Mississippi, on November 28, 2000, at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 28 days. She grew up in Aurora and went to school there, where her father “Jack” was Sherriff of Hamilton County for more than 20 years. She went to Omaha after graduating from high school. Norma graduated from Methodist Hospital and received her RN degree. She worked with Dr. Steenburg and had many good stories to tell of her early nursing duties. Norma was united in marriage to Martin Nelson in October of 1936. They moved to California in 1940 and made their home in the Los Angeles area. She worked as an RN at the French Hospital in Los Angeles, and Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, California. Norma worked for Dr. Slayback of Highland Park, California for many years. Martin passed away in 1969, while they were on vacation in Aurora. Norma retired in 1971. She moved to Union, Mississippi in February 2000 to live with her daughter and son-in-law, as her health was failing. She was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church. She was active in the Highland Park YMCA and Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sister, Arlene June. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Adriane Kinloch of Union, Mississippi, and her son, Norman Nelson of Los Angeles, California; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren all of California. |
